Playable Jean Grey Appears In Marvel’s Wolverine Early Gameplay Footage

In less than a month, Marvel’s Wolverine—a new project from Insomniac Games set in the same universe as the Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise—will be released exclusively for PlayStation 5. The developers have confirmed that the game will not be Logan’s origin story; instead, we will see him as part of Team X, taking on the iconic villain, Bolivar Trask.

As is well known, Logan will be the only playable character in Marvel’s Wolverine; despite fans’ speculation, Insomniac has confirmed on several occasions that Jean Grey will not be playable, although she will assist Wolverine in combat. However, back in 2023, a massive leak from Insomniac revealed that Jean Grey would be the second playable character, and now footage has emerged of early gameplay from Marvel’s Wolverine, showing what the game looks like from Jean Grey’s perspective, as you can check out below:

The clip shows Jean using her powers to battle enemies, and the gameplay looks far more engaging than the Mary Jane missions in Marvel’s Spider-Man. The leak also revealed an early version of Marvel’s Wolverine, already from Logan’s perspective. Why Insomniac decided to cut Jean Grey as a playable character remains unknown at this stage.

It has also recently come to light that there was other cut content from Marvel’s Wolverine. Specifically, it was reported that Nightcrawler was originally planned as one of Logan’s sidekicks but was subsequently replaced by Jubilee and eventually Tyger Tiger. The developers also planned to include a teaser for the game in the ending of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, more expansive locations, destructible environments, and much more.

Meanwhile, gaming outlets have also weighed in with Marvel’s Wolverine early impressions, praising the combat system in particular, along with the emotional story that reveals Logan's more human side.

The game is confirmed to release on September 15 exclusively for PlayStation 5.
