The Elder Scrolls VI Might Be Titled Sentinel—What Do We Know So Far

One of the biggest news stories this week was the announcement by the head of Xbox, Asha Sharma—she revealed that she had seen a live walkthrough of The Elder Scrolls VI and claimed that the game looked incredible. What’s more, she (along with Bethesda Game Studios) hinted at a possible subtitle for the game—and fans have already started coming up with theories and have made some progress.

Fans of the franchise have launched a lively debate about what the title of the new The Elder Scrolls game might be. Asha Sharma and Bethesda Game Studios have confirmed that it consists of eight letters—and fans have concluded that the game could be called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. In the game series’ lore, Sentinel is a key geographical and political hub—the largest port city and capital of Hammerfell—and rumor has it that this is where the events of TES VI take place. So, this title certainly makes sense and fits Sharma’s description, but the speculation doesn’t end there.

As it turns out, Bethesda Game Studios may have teased the title of The Elder Scrolls VI as far back as 2023, during Starfield's presentation. There is currently a lively Internet discussion about the moment during the Starfield Direct when we were shown the character editor and the staff number 1905142009140512. The thing is, if you split it into pairs—19|05|14|20|09|14|05|12—and map the numbers to letters of the English alphabet, you end up with exactly the same word: ‘Sentinel,’ as you can check out below:

But that’s not the end of the story, as Michael Kirkbride—a former developer at Bethesda Softworks—has also confirmed that The Elder Scrolls VI is titled Sentinel. He made this statement during a recent discussion on Reddit, and although he left the studio around 20 years ago, it is assumed that he still has connections with those who work there, so his comments should not be dismissed as mere rumor.

Without a doubt, this discussion and the comments left by Asha Sharma have been a boost for TES VI, given that we haven’t heard any official details about the game for quite some time. Nevertheless, last month Bethesda Game Studios confirmed that the game is their priority at the moment, and hopefully we’ll get some official details by the end of the year at the very least—even if the release is probably still a couple of years away.
