Embracer Group Revealed Gothic 1 Remake Sales Exceeded Company’s Expectations

Embracer Group has published its latest earnings report for the first quarter of fiscal year 2026–2027, revealing which projects have paid off for the company and which haven't. Gothic 1 Remake, released by THQ Nordic and Alkimia Interactive in early June, is among the winners.

The report shows the game exceeded Embracer's expectations, recouping its development costs and becoming one of the key drivers of sales growth between April and June 2026. The company hasn't disclosed exact revenue or budget figures for Gothic 1 Remake, though THQ Nordic had previously confirmed 500,000 copies sold in the first week. “The Embracer operating segment delivered 63% organic growth, with growth across all segments. Core revenue drivers included the successful new release of Gothic 1 Remake and the catalog performance of REANIMAL, along with Sled Surfers in Mobile, and very strong growth for Entertainment & Services, driven by PLAION Partners.”

Gothic 1 Remake is expected to start turning a net profit soon, which is clearly good news for Embracer, THQ Nordic, and the team at Alkimia Interactive. The remake was a fairly risky bet from the start—the studio had to walk a fine line between staying faithful to the original, so as not to alienate longtime fans, and still bringing in new players. It looks like the studio has risen to the challenge.

That success matters even more for the franchise's future. Last week, at the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase, Alkimia Interactive not only revealed plans to keep supporting the Gothic 1 Remake going forward but also teased a Gothic 2 remake, possibly landing next year. On top of that, Gothic II Complete Classic and Gothic 3 Classic are confirmed for console release later this year, on September 29 and November 24, respectively.
