Eight Episodes, Linear Structure, and More Seasons: New Details About Life is Strange TV Show Revealed

Since Life is Strange: Reunion released this March, fans have been waiting for any word on the franchise's future. With Square Enix and Deck Nine staying quiet, attention has shifted to the upcoming TV adaptation of the first Life is Strange game, being developed for Amazon Prime Video.

Filming for the Life is Strange series is currently underway in Vancouver, though an official look at the show has yet to be unveiled. Meanwhile, one of the show's producers, Mike Goldberg, gave a new interview revealing some details about the adaptation. He denied earlier reports the show will feature 6 episodes—there will actually be 2 more than that. He also confirmed the project will follow a linear structure, similar to the original game, and hinted a potential sequel could be on the table down the line, though it's still too early to say for sure. “This was our third time setting up the project for scripted television development. This was the time that worked and we got our series order.

Should we be able to earn more seasons? Of course, there’s going to be a lot more story we get to tell, not just with Chloe and Max. But hopefully with other elements of Life Is Strange, but Chloe and Max are the key and core to that show.”

Given how many titles make up the Life is Strange franchise, the show could get renewed for a second season eventually, and the most obvious option would be a prequel drawing on Life is Strange: Before the Storm, which explores Chloe Price's relationship with Rachel Amber. Incidentally, Esther McGregor plays Rachel in the first season, and since that character didn’t appear in the original game, the show will likely lean on flashback scenes to bring her in.

Besides Esther McGregor, the cast of the Life is Strange TV series also features Tatum Grace Hopkins as Max Caulfield, Maisy Stella as Chloe Price, Tom Cullen as Mark Jefferson, Leisha Hailey as Joyce Price, Raul Castillo as David Madsen, Owen Teague as Frank Bowers, Billy Barratt as Nathan Prescott, Emily Carey as Victoria Chase, Faly Rakotohavana as Warren Graham, and Mia Isaac as Kate Marsh.

As for the Life is Strange video games, this June it was revealed that Life is Strange: Reunion's sales exceeded Square Enix's expectations. However, neither the publisher nor the developer, Deck Nine, has yet shared any details about the franchise's future. Meanwhile, Life is Strange: Welcome to Caledon University may have teased what the next game in the franchise could be like. Its storyline follows Safi and Diamond as they search for characters from previous Life is Strange installments, including Daniel from Life is Strange 2 and Alex from Life is Strange: True Colors.
