Australian GTA 6 Players Will Need a Driver’s License or Other Document to Get Access to Play

The Grand Theft Auto series, especially its early installments, has always been known for its violence and the freedom to cause chaos on city streets. This has undoubtedly earned the games a mature rating, but at the same time, it has attracted a massive player base. As we know, the upcoming GTA 6 will follow the same path, as the game has already been rated Mature 17+, meaning it's not recommended for everyone due to its intense violence, blood, and strong language.

It has been revealed that some players will even be required to show identification verifying their age in order to play GTA 6. Specifically, according to a new report from Dexerto, Australian residents will need to confirm their age using a driver's license or other official documents to access the most anticipated video game of 2026. While the technical details of this process remain unknown, the reason behind it is that the country has recently implemented online safety laws, under which only adults are allowed to play games with an "18+" rating. Moreover, this system is already in use for another Rockstar Games title, GTA Online.

After Rockstar Games confirmed the price and opened pre-orders for GTA 6's Standard and Ultimate editions at the end of June, fans were expecting the studio to release a new trailer for the game—but that hasn't happened yet. Nevertheless, despite the lack of official updates, recent information from Brazilian retailers suggests that the open world in GTA 6 will be the largest ever featured in a Rockstar Games title. Jason and Lucia will each have unique abilities, and players will be able to switch between them at any time during the game. In addition, a social media system will play a major role in the gameplay, allowing the protagonists to stay updated on events happening both within Vice City and beyond.
