Resident Evil Veronica Might Have a Surprise Connection to the Latest Franchise’s Title, Requiem
The announcement of the Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake, the original game from 2000 that takes place after Resident Evil 2, was one of the major highlights of the recent Summer Game Fest event. As many rumors and insider reports suggested, Capcom is placing a huge bet on Resident Evil Veronica, and this could become one of the studio’s most ambitious projects in recent years.
Shortly after the game's announcement, the first details about Resident Evil Veronica surfaced, coming from both the developers and insiders. It was confirmed, in particular, that the game will be entirely third-person, despite the debut teaser being from a first-person perspective. Additionally, the storyline will be significantly reworked and expanded, ensuring that the situation with cut important content, similar to what happened with the Resident Evil 3 remake, will not occur. Regarding potential story expansions, insider Dusk Golem, referring to one of Resident Evil Veronica’s producers, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, mentioned that the remake might have an unexpected connection to the ninth installment of the franchise released this year—Resident Evil Requiem. It’s unclear exactly what this connection entails, but according to the insider, it could be related to the organization The Connections and one of the game’s villains, Zeno. Beyond Requiem, Veronica may also tie into other recently released titles in the series, as you can see below:
“They say Veronica has some ties into later RE games, including Requiem. The producer even says there's some "throughline" that's in Veronica's remake that's new that leads pretty directly to Requiem (my speculation is it might be things with The Connections/Zeno, but we shall see).”
When discussing a possible connection to Zeno in Resident Evil Veronica, one cannot overlook the recent statement by Resident Evil Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa. He teased that the villain is a more significant figure than we might think and could theoretically return in future projects. Most fans probably assumed he was referring to the upcoming story DLC for Requiem, but Resident Evil Veronica now seems like another plausible option. Speaking of the DLC for Resident Evil Requiem, Dusk Golem also mentioned that its release will most likely occur after the Code Veronica remake, although Capcom has yet to announce any official plans regarding the release date.
Besides Resident Evil Veronica, Capcom is also developing the remake of Resident Evil Zero. According to recent information from the same source, Dusk Golem, the studio has restarted development, and the main development team is now working on the game. The release is tentatively expected in 2028.
