Next Mafia Installment Rumored to Feature a Multiplayer Mode

As is known, Hangar 13 has officially confirmed work on a new installment of Mafia following the success of last year's Mafia: The Old Country, which reportedly exceeded the expectations of Take-Two Interactive. So far, official details of the game remain unknown, but a new update teases the appearance of an unexpected feature.

The studio is actively hiring staff for the next installment of Mafia, including a Lead VFX artist. It has been noted that candidates with experience in "understanding of multiplayer or networked gameplay VFX challenges" will be given special consideration. This may hint that in the next Mafia game, for the first time in the history of the franchise, we will see a multiplayer mode. In addition, the job posting also confirms that the game, like The Old Country, will use the Unreal Engine 5.

The presence of multiplayer in the new Mafia installment looks interesting, but for now, it is difficult to predict whether it will be a full-fledged online sandbox in the spirit of GTA Online or if the game will be limited to PvP and PvE modes. In any case, the project is still in the early stages of development, and it is unlikely that we will learn the official details anytime soon.

In turn, thanks to insider reports, it became known earlier this year that the new installment of Mafia will be a direct sequel to The Old Country, and its events will take place in Empire Bay in the 1920s–1930s, a city from Mafia 2. By the way, the developers are also working on a remake of the second installment. Moreover, according to LinkedIn, the narrative director of the franchise will be Emily Grace Buck, who previously worked on more than 20 projects at DICE, Telltale Games, and Ubisoft.
