No Spider-Man and Logan as Only Playable Character: New Details of Marvel’s Wolverine Revealed

Marvel's Wolverine became one of the main games at the recent State of Play exhibition from PlayStation. Insomniac Games finally showed the first gameplay footage of the upcoming action game, as well as revealed new details, including about the plot.

Shortly after the show ends, Marvel's Wolverine, as predicted, will become available for pre-order on the PS Store. Meanwhile, the developers also gave an interview to IGN, in which they spoke more about the game. In particular, Marvel's Wolverine creative director Marcus Smith confirmed that the events of the game take place in the same universe as Marvel's Spider-Man—Earth-1048; however, the appearance of Peter Parker in the game should not be expected. Moreover, despite the appearance of Jean Grey in the gameplay trailer, the only playable character will be Logan; instead, Jean Grey, like Sabretooth, will assist Wolverine in combat. “It's correct that it does take place in the 1048 Marvel Universe, which is the Insomniac video game universe. It happens in the same world, but we don't have any crossover. Spider-Man will not be making an appearance in Wolverine.

In this game, Logan and Sabretooth are actually on a team together, but the way they ally is not really anything like the way you ally with Jean Gray. Logan and Sabretooth have a very competitive dynamic between them. Whereas Jean Gray might give you an opportunity to get a kill, with Sabretooth fighting alongside you, it's more like, you think you've got a kill and he rushes in to steal it from you, and their combat banter brings out that dynamic and makes the whole fight more fun.

This game is all about Wolverine and you play Wolverine the whole way through. We wanted to keep the focus on him throughout the whole story.”

The plot of Marvel's Wolverine is devoted to how Logan, along with other members of his kind, including the aforementioned Jean Grey and Sabretooth, are engaged in rescuing young mutants around the world. In this universe, the X-Men have not yet been formed, and the heroes are members of the Team X group. It is also confirmed that characters such as Mystique, Omega Red, Sabretooth, Leech, and the organization The Hand will appear in the game.
