Insomniac Games Revealed First Gameplay and Shared New Details of Marvel’s Wolverine
PlayStation State of Play event has officially concluded, leaving fans with plenty of excitement with Marvel's Wolverine showcase from Insomniac Games was undoubtedly a major highlight.
The developers have finally unveiled the first gameplay for Marvel's Wolverine, which marks a notable departure from the studio's previous work on the Spider-Man franchise. The combat system has shifted toward a more visceral approach, with a level of gore that occasionally borders on extreme. This has resulted in more dynamic gameplay: Marvel's Wolverine evokes the high-octane chase sequences of Uncharted, while the enemy execution mechanics draw clear parallels to God of War. Furthermore, the game offers semi-open world exploration, encouraging players to uncover hidden secrets and bonuses before progressing through the core narrative missions. Insomniac Games has also shared details regarding the plot of Marvel's Wolverine. Specifically, it appears Logan is tracking down young mutants—as depicted in the trailer—to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands. The trailer further confirms the inclusion of characters such as Jean Grey (who assists Wolverine in combat), Mystique, Omega Red, Sabretooth, Ogun, Leech, and the Hand organization. Meanwhile, Variety reports that the X-Men do not exist in this universe. Instead, Logan and his allies belong to Team X, a group dedicated to rescuing mutants worldwide who remain in hiding, largely unknown to the public.
Furthermore, the source confirms that other characters from the Marvel lore will appear in the game, making it likely that players can expect some unexpected cameos. Also, in Marvel's Wolverine, Logan cannot die as "he dies when his heart stops, and his healing factor can no longer activate, and that’s represented by his health bar. In order to maintain your health, you need to be aggressive ".
Shortly after the game's reveal, rumors were confirmed that Marvel's Wolverine would be available for pre-order. The game is now available for purchase on the PS Store: $69.99 for the standard edition and $79.99 for the deluxe edition, which includes 5 additional suits, 5 types of claws, and +3 Technique Points. Pre-ordering the game also grants you the Classic Brown Suit, Reflective Claws, +1 Technique Point, and 4 PlayStation Avatars.
