Marvel’s Wolverine Will Let Players Explore Areas Before Completing Story Quests
The upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac Games is one of the most exciting titles of 2026. It is set to release on September 15 exclusively on PlayStation 5, and unlike previous studio installments, specifically, Marvel’s Spider-Man game series, it will not feature an open world.
Nevertheless, players will still have the opportunity to explore the game areas. It is confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine will take players to at least three game locations—Tokyo, Canada, and Madripoor—the latter being a fictional city and an important setting for Wolverine in the Marvel comics. In terms of world-building, Marvel’s Wolverine will remind you of God of War and Tomb Raider game series, where wide-linear design was used. According to the new report of Legion Looterana, similar to the above-mentioned game, Marvel’s Wolverine will let players explore all locations available in search of loot, secrets, and more before you get back on your mission.
“What does it mean that Wolverine will be Wide-Linear?
We'll have detailed, explorable maps in Canada, Tokyo, and Madripoor, where:
- You can go off the beaten path to track secrets or hunt in the snow.
- When it's time to progress the story, the game locks you into linear levels of total destruction.
- After combat, you go back to exploring.
Insomniac is cooking up the ultimate Logan simulator.”
Although it’s not confirmed by Insomniac Games yet, it’s possible that the game will feature side quests unrelated to the main storyline, during which we might encounter characters from the Marvel universe. Given Insomniac Games’ capabilities, the developers have everything they need to expand their gaming universe and turn Marvel’s Wolverine into a project that truly brings something new to the table, beyond its intense combat system and lack of an open world.
The studio is also looking to reveal the new gameplay of Marvel’s Wolverine this spring, which is claimed. Moreover, they might have started to develop Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, which was teased by Peter Parker’s actor, Ben Jordan, as he recently did some mocap for his character.
