GTA 6 Might Sell Around 35 Million Copies in First 6 Months After Release
Despite the fact that GTA 6 did not appear at the recent Sony State of Play show, as insiders had hinted, and it is hardly worth expecting it at the Summer Game Fest or Xbox Games Showcase, the game still remains the most anticipated project of 2026, and there are good reasons for that.
The marketing campaign for GTA 6 is expected to start this month, and roughly in the second half of it, a new trailer reveal, details disclosure, and pre-order openings are expected. Until this happens, a new report from Piper Sandler predicts that Grand Theft Auto 6 could sell 35 million copies by April 2027. Analysts link this to a possible increase in Take-Two shares to $280 and state that the figure of 35 million represents about 30% of potential sales. It is also worth reminding that previously another publication, DFC Intelligence, predicted that the game's sales would reach 40 million copies within the first 12 months after release, and TweakTown stated that this figure will be reached by March next year.

The analytical media also predicts that GTA 6 sales will become relevant again, possibly when the release of the PC version is announced, as well as when the next-generation consoles - PlayStation 6 and Microsoft's Project Helix - are released, where the game will inevitably be available. Moreover, by analogy with GTA Online, Rockstar Games is very likely to support the multiplayer mode of the sixth installment, which will bring the company even more revenue— looking at the game's performance over the past 8 months, financial success is guaranteed.
Earlier, it was revealed that GTA 6 needs to sell about 20 million copies on launch day for Take-Two Interactive to be satisfied with the performance, and even a mark of 10 million copies would not be enough. In turn, the company expects to make a profit of around $8 billion in the next fiscal year, and most players, as a recent survey showed, would be willing to pay $100 for the standard edition of GTA 6.
