Amazon’s Life is Strange TV Series Casts Five New Actors—Including One Miscast
Preparations for filming Amazon's adaptation of Life is Strange are underway, with the addition of five new cast members announced. By the way, one of the actresses doesn't quite match her character's appearance.
In any case, according to a new report from Variety, the following actors have joined the live-action Life is Strange series: Billy Barratt (Bring Her Back), Emily Carey (House of the Dragon, Wonder Woman), Esther McGregor (We Were Liars, High School), Faly Rakotohavana (UnPrisoned, Secret Society of Second-Born Royals), and Mia Isaac (The Perfect Couple, Don’t Make Me Go).
Billy Barratt will play Nathan Prescott, one of the game's antagonists. Emily Carey will play Victoria Chase, a friend of Nathan. Esther McGregor will play Rachel Amber, a character who does not appear directly in the Life is Strange game but remains a vital part of the story due to her connection with another character, Chloe Price. Faly Rakotohavana will play Warren Graham, a friend of the protagonist Max Caulfield, while Mia Isaac will play Kate Marsh, another friend of the protagonist.
Regarding the casting controversy, fans on social media have expressed dissatisfaction with the selection of Mia Isaac for the role of Kate Marsh. In the original game, Kate Marsh possesses a distinct appearance—featuring light brown hair and a fair complexion—whereas the announced actress is of mixed-race descent, with Chinese, Panamanian, and Jamaican heritage. Consequently, concerns have been raised regarding how these changes may impact the audience's overall reception of the series.
A more notable detail is the inclusion of Rachel Amber, played by Esther McGregor. As previously noted, Rachel does not appear in the original Life is Strange; however, the investigation into her disappearance remains a central narrative pillar for Max and Chloe within the game. It is quite possible that we will see flashbacks featuring Rachel and Chloe; it is entirely plausible that these could be scenes adapted from the game's prequel, Life is Strange: Before the Storm.

Last month, four new actors were announced for the roles of such characters as Mark Jefferson, Joyce Price, David Madsen, and Frank Bowers. Tatum Grace Hopkins will also play Max Caulfield, and Maisy Stella will portray Chloe Price. Karyn Kusama is also confirmed to direct the first two episodes; she recently described Life is Strange as a “fantastic adaptation of the game.” Lauren Wolkstein (The Strange Ones) is rumored to be listed as the second director, as revealed via AdnanRiaz9.
Amazon’s Life is Strange is confirmed to adapt the events of the original Life is Strange video game released in 2015 by DON’T NOD. The show's synopsis reveals it follows Max—a photography student who discovers she can rewind time while saving the life of her childhood best friend, Chloe. As she struggles to understand this new skill, the pair investigate the mysterious disappearance of a fellow student, uncovering a dark side to their town that will ultimately force them to make an impossible life-or-death choice that will impact them forever. The release date of the Life is Strange show remains unknown.
As for the Life is Strange game series, Deck Nine and Square Enix have yet to confirm whether Life is Strange: Reunion was the last game in the franchise, as was speculated. The fans remain hopeful that the game series will get more titles, with one concept featuring Safi and Diamond, who were looking for characters from previous Life is Strange installments, teased by Life is Strange: Welcome to Caledon University book.
