Capcom Teasing Next Resident Evil Title Might Take Players to Japan
Resident Evil game series has taken players to every corner of the globe—from the USA and Africa to Eastern Europe and China—yet it is paradoxical that none of the games have ever been set in Japan, especially considering that Capcom is a Japanese company. Nevertheless, it appears the studio is open to that possibility.
Recently, Resident Evil Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa gave an interview to Futaman, where he hinted that he had personally considered setting the franchise's events in Japan and acknowledged that this could happen in the future. The highlights from his interview you can check out below:
“I think that every Japanese Resident Evil fan has definitely thought about a Japan setting, and I’ve also considered it myself. As the series is primarily developed by staff in Japan, I think everyone on the dev team has probably thought about it. Even though Japan hasn’t appeared as a setting for the games yet, I think it might at some point in the future.”
In the same interview, Kumazawa also teased that one of the villains of Resident Evil Requiem, Zeno, is a more significant figure than many realize, and his return in future franchise projects remains a possibility. Moreover, with story DLC for the game currently in development, this could be the perfect opportunity to bring him back to the screen, shedding more light on his past and his connection to The Connections organization.
As for a potential new Resident Evil entry set in Japan, that seems like a winning move. After all, the country is incredibly popular in video games, and last year’s spin-off from a direct franchise competitor, Silent Hill f, is direct proof of that.
In addition to the aforementioned story DLC for Requiem, Capcom is also working on a remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica— likely to be announced this week at Summer Game Fest —as well as Resident Evil 10. Reports recently surfaced suggesting that the tenth installment will release in 2029 and become the scariest game in the franchise's history.
