Wizards of the Coast Reportedly Developing Remakes of Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2

Released in 2023 by Larian Studios, Baldur's Gate 3 brought the series incredible popularity, becoming one of the best games of that year and one of the best RPGs of this generation. Although Larian is currently focused on their own project—a new game in the Divinity universe—the Baldur's Gate franchise may soon receive a significant update.

According to a new report from PC Gamer, Wizards of the Coast—the publisher of Dungeons & Dragons and, by extension, Baldur's Gate—is working on remakes of Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn. While the source does not identify the studio responsible for development, it notes that former BioWare developer and Baldur's Gate 2 co-lead designer Kevin Martens may be involved. Additionally, it remains unclear whether the expansions Tales of the Sword Coast and Throne of Bhaal will be included in these remakes.

The news of a potential remake for the first two Baldur's Gate titles is certainly exciting for fans, but since Wizards of the Coast has yet to comment on these claims, it should currently be treated as a rumor. It is also worth noting that both titles are quite substantial, and development could take years to complete.

The situation may be clarified in the near future, with official confirmation potentially arriving during an event such as Summer Game Fest, scheduled for June 5–8.

Regarding the latest game in the franchise, Baldur's Gate 3, Larian recently released an update for the console version that adds 17 new mods, 2 new classes, and much more.
