Pearl Abyss Confirmed to Be Working on a DLC for Crimson Desert
Despite a problematic start, Crimson Desert, developed by Pearl Abyss, managed to become one of the biggest launches in 2026. Since the game's release in March of this year, the developers have released several major updates for the game aimed at fixing bugs and adding new content. As a result, the game has become a financial success, and last month it surpassed the mark of 5 million copies sold.
On May 12, Pearl Abyss released the studio’s financial report for the first quarter of 2026, where they not only revealed some astonishing marks of company’s revenue and Crimson Desert sales but also confirmed they are exploring a possibility of making a DLC for the game, as you can check out below:
“We are currently exploring various ways to broaden the game to the next level including DLC”
Speaking of financial side of Pearl Abyss and Crimson Desert, the studio unveiled its revenue has grown 4 times and currently reached a figure of $220 million, net profit increased to $106 million, and operating profit now stands at $142 million. As for the financial performance of Crimson Desert itself, about 81% of revenue for the first quarter of 2026 came from the game, while it is noted that 76% of the player audience is from North America and Europe, and sales of the game on consoles and PC are almost evenly split, 50/50.
The idea of Crimson Desert getting a DLC is a great perspective for players, as it could bring a new map to the game with new missions, quests, and storylines. For now, there is no information on what it could be, but recently the fans have spotted the game has an entire village outside the main map, which was not used in the game but might theoretically appear in a DLC or future updates.
Recently, Pearl Abyss also released a new update for Crimson Desert - Patch Notes Version 1.06.00. The main innovations here are the new Special Mounts and an ‘Extraction’ feature that allows players to recover materials used to refine equipment.
The studio is also working on their next title, DokeV, announced back in 2019. It's an open-world action-adventure video game featuring Dokebi—Korean folklore creatures that gain strength from people’s dreams and collide together on their adventures. The release date of the game is currently planned no earlier than 2027 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
