Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick Is Disappointed with Situation Around BioShock 4
The fourth installment of BioShock is one of those games that we know is in development but is seemingly going through development hell. The game was confirmed to be in development in 2019, but we still don't know much about the project, and there are concerns that we will not learn any official information about the game for a long time.
BioShock 4 is reportedly in development under Cloud Chamber, led by Rod Fergusson, who worked as executive vice president of BioShock Infinite’s development. Speaking of the studio, last year Cloud Chamber suffered from layoffs and even a change of authority; as a result, the development of BioShock 4 was rebooted. We also heard information from reliable insider Scooper V about its setting and some gameplay details —the game features RPG elements, including choices that will have consequences, as well as advanced world interaction, character dynamics during the story, and a realistic physics system.
So far, none of these have been confirmed, and it remains unclear at what stage of development the game currently is, which is clearly frustrating fans of the series. However, this situation regarding BioShock and Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive—the parent company of 2K Games, which publishes BioShock 4—is both upsetting and disappointing. He stated this during a recent interview with Stephen Totilo of Game File, and you can read his comments below:
“Think about what ‘surprise’ implies. That’s like, one day, everything’s awesome, and the next day, I’m like, ‘Holy shit.’ And I don’t run the business that way. But I think if you’re saying ‘disappointed. Deeply disappointed.
I think finding the right creative purchase was hard, as it turns out. What we do is a big team activity in the same way that making a movie is a team activity. And with big team activities, you can’t necessarily tell how it’s going to be until it all comes together, or begins to come together, and that can take a while and can be very costly.”
We also know that Netflix is developing movie based on BioShock game series, which is reportedly be the iteration of the original video game. Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games) will serve as its director, while Michael Green (Blade Runner 2049) and Justin Rhodes (Terminator: Dark Fate) are working on the movie’s script. According to the film's producer, Roy Lee, production of the movie may begin next year, and the release was initially planned for around the same time as the game's release. But now this option is in doubt due to uncertainty regarding the development of the fourth game.
