Rockstar Games Developers Complaining About Overtime Amid GTA 6’s Release

There is no doubt that Rockstar Games employees at all levels are working hard to give the fans the best GTA 6 experience possible when the game is finally released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, this kind of job does not necessarily mean that employees will be satisfied with the process.

One of the company’s developers, specifically, a QA analyst at Rockstar Games in Bengaluru, India, has shared his review on the Glassdoor website, where he revealed many interesting, though not particularly pleasant, details about his work. According to an anonymous employee, he and his colleagues were told to complete tasks in 2-3 months when usually it takes more—5-6 months. Since last month, they've been working overtime and don't get paid. As an example, one of his colleagues has worked till 3AM, which took a toll on his physical and mental condition. More detailed information from the Glassdoor website you can check out below:

“Exciting projects but unrealistic workload and expectations

Pros:

  • Free food is nice
  • There is a growth but limited
  • You get to work on the most anticipated entertainment project in the world.

Cons:

  • You are expected to work overtime without pay.
  • The work schedule has been hectic since last month.
  • Some colleagues had to work till 3AM in the morning after completing heir shifts in the morning.
  • They’re expecting us to complete tasks that usually take 5-6 months in 2-3 months.
  • If you complain to HOD, it’s useless.

Advice to Management:

I enjoyed working here in the previous year but the last few weeks have been a toll on my mental health, please be lenient on us, we are humans too”

At the same time, notable gaming journalist Reece Reilly, mostly known as the host of his Kiwi Talkz podcast, has confirmed this case is real but clarified there is a tough work-life balance in India:

“Kiwi, sorry for disturbing you, have you heard anything about crunch in India?

what you call crunch is just normal day to day work in India, so 100% yes lol.

India isn't known for work life balance, I spend a lot of time there due to family and friends and I know how crazy they work.”

Despite the subtleties, Rockstar Games is actively preparing to launch GTA 6’s marketing campaign this summer, as the studio is looking for a 'Production Artist' in New York and reportedly starting to produce posters and billboards for the game. We also know that Take-Two’s next financial report is scheduled for May 21, and the fans are hopeful that this month the new trailer of the game will finally be revealed.
