New PlayStation 6 Info Reveals Next-Gen Console’s Assets, Details and Future Games
Despite regular rumors and insider reports, Sony has yet to comment on any details regarding its next-generation console, the PlayStation 6. Meanwhile, earlier this year, its competitor, Microsoft, unveiled its counterpart, Project Helix.
A new report from MP1st gives a little bit more information about the upcoming PlayStation 6, specifically its machine learning, cloud streaming, and more. It is mentioned that Sony is currently working on developing assets, including 2D and 3D, for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 6. These assets are described as AAA quality, so we can expect Sony will release some cross-gen titles at some point. Moreover, the source is claiming that the company is planning to further develop social apps on the platform, which are described as “Next Gen Social Apps,” as well as video streaming and multitasking.
Sony is also said to be developing some upgrades for cloud game streaming, as for the last few years they actively developed PCIe Gen5 NVMe, the new storage server solution, which will be used in PlayStation 6. At the same time, the older version, PCIe Gen4 NVMe, is being used in PlayStation 5. Recently, notable PlayStation leaker Kepler_L2 hinted at this and also revealed that PlayStation 6 will have a 1TB Gen5 SSD. For comparison, Gen5 is twice as powerful (14,900 MB/s sequential reads and 14,000 MB/s sequential writes) as its predecessor (7,500 MB/s sequential reads and 7,000 MB/s sequential writes).
At last, it’s been revealed that Sony is currently in cooperation with some gaming studio to develop “immersive third-person horror shooter” mechanics built on Unreal Engine for PlayStation 6. Until Dawn 2 was rumored to be in development for a while, and it fits the description perfectly, but it's hard to say anything for sure at this point.
At this point, Sony hasn’t given any comments on potential PlayStation 6 details, including previous rumors that the console might receive path tracing at 60 FPS, full backward compatibility with PS4 and PS5, and more.
