While the company is widely recognized for franchises such as Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania, and Silent Hill, Konami also has a long-standing history in the RPG space. Among its most notable contributions is the Suikoden series, which debuted on the original PlayStation in 1995 and grew into one of the publisher’s most successful franchises, spanning five mainline titles and multiple spin-offs. Earlier this year, Konami released Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remastered: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars for modern platforms, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version launching alongside the console in June 2025.

A New Action RPG Inspired by the Classics

Rev. NOiR is currently in development for PlayStation 5 and was one of several major announcements during the State of Play showcase. Alongside it, Konami revealed a new mainline Castlevania title and Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection Vol. 2. While many of these projects are scheduled for 2026, a release window for Rev. NOiR has not yet been confirmed.

The game is set in a world plagued by mysterious falling drops of light that bring death and destruction to anything they touch. The story follows a young man suffering from amnesia who is awakened by a mysterious woman possessing unusual powers. Together, they embark on a journey to uncover the truth behind the catastrophic “light fall” and attempt to restore their homeland.

Though details remain limited, the debut trailer suggests that Rev. NOiR will feature real-time action RPG combat, drawing comparisons to recent Final Fantasy titles. Footage shows the protagonist dodging attacks and warping toward enemies in flashes of light, evoking gameplay reminiscent of Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy XVI.

Familiar Roots, Modern Vision

Visually, Rev. NOiR embraces an anime-inspired aesthetic that recalls series such as Tales of and Phantasy Star. Its apocalyptic premise, centered on a world shaped by catastrophe, aligns with classic RPG storytelling traditions while adding its own layer of mystery. Striking moments in the trailer — including scenes of large-scale destruction reversing itself — hint at deeper narrative themes and a unique gameplay mechanic.

The game was introduced by producer Nobuki Kadoi, known for his work on Drakengard 2. Describing himself as a longtime RPG enthusiast, Kadoi emphasized the team’s ambition to deliver a grand adventure filled with memorable story beats and emotionally driven character arcs.
