Sucker Punch Reveals Legends Multiplayer Mode For Ghost Of Yotei
Developer Sucker Punch has announced the release date for Ghost of Yōtei’s online cooperative multiplayer experience. The mode, titled Legends, will arrive on March 10 as a free update for everyone who owns the base game. The announcement, made during the recent PlayStation State of Play presentation, came with a new trailer showcasing the supernatural threats players will face together.
This multiplayer expansion for Yotei introduces distinct mission structures and specialized character classes, moving beyond the single-player narrative to offer a unique, collaborative adventure grounded in Japanese mythology. The development team designed this mode as a separate experience, with a new story, new characters, and a more stylized, fantastical aesthetic compared to the main game’s more grounded depiction of the island of Tsushima. The cooperative gameplay is built around teams of two to four players tackling a variety of challenges that require coordinated tactics and complementary skills to overcome.
Legends will launch with three different mission types. The first is Survival, where a team of up to four players must defend multiple locations across one of four maps against waves of increasingly difficult enemies. The core objective involves fighting to control key territories on the battlefield. When a team successfully controls a specific location, they can activate a Blessing, which provides a helpful advantage in combat. Conversely, losing control of a territory will unleash a Curse, imposing a disadvantage upon the team. The Legends development team stated that each of the four Survival maps will feature its own unique Curses and Blessings for players to discover and contend with, adding a layer of strategic variation to each match. I see this mechanic forcing teams to stay mobile and communicate effectively to manage the flow of battle.

The second mode is Story, designed for two players to experience a series of narrative-driven missions. This mode will consist of twelve distinct missions presented in sets of three. After a duo completes each set of three Story missions, they will unlock an Incursion. Sucker Punch described an Incursion as a large-scale assault on a stronghold belonging to a member of the formidable Yōtei Six. These four-player missions are designed to be a significant step up in difficulty and scale. Each Incursion will culminate in a climactic boss fight against a giant, supernatural version of one of the key antagonists, including the Spider, the Oni, the Kitsune, or the Snake.
Looking ahead, Sucker Punch plans to expand the experience further. The studio announced that a Raid will be released in April, which is designed to put a four-player team to the ultimate test. I do believe this will be the mode's most difficult challenge. The Raid will feature confrontations with the two remaining members of the Yōtei Six: the Dragon and Lord Saito himself.
"The fan response to Legends was one of the most rewarding parts of launching Ghost of Tsushima, and we're so excited to see the mode return for Ghost of Yōtei; we can't (wait) for you all to dive in!"

Players can choose from one of four available classes: Samurai, Archer, Mercenary, or Shinobi. While any class can equip a katana and a ranged weapon, each possesses unique strengths and exclusive equipment. The Samurai can wield the ōdachi, a large two-handed greatsword, and has access to the widest variety of weapon types in the game. Those who play as an Archer can utilize the yari, a traditional Japanese spear, and will also have the benefit of carrying an additional ranged weapon. The Mercenary class wields dual katanas and specializes in a variety of utility-focused abilities designed to support the team. Finally, the Shinobi uses the versatile kusarigama, a chain and sickle weapon, and comes equipped with a suite of skills focused on stealth and assassination.
