Arc Raiders Fans Have Found The Real Stella Montis, And The Reviews Are Golden
In the world of Arc Raiders, Stella Montis is a place of cold, suffocating halls and dangerous encounters. In the real world, the Stella Montis is a luxury hotel in Italy offering hiking, biking, and skiing. Players of the Embark Studios game have discovered this coincidence and have begun leaving dozens of reviews for the real establishment, connecting it to the brutal in-game location. The players are not complaining; instead, they are having fun with the situation and praising the hotel for its "features" that mirror the game's mechanics, including the presence of valuable loot and dangerous enemies. The keyword for this phenomenon has become Stella Montis itself.
The reviews are filled with in-game jargon and advice for fellow "guests." One review awards the hotel five stars but warns that groups larger than two have a high chance of encountering "rats" in the lobby. The same reviewer notes the hotel's medical section is a hot spot for dead bodies and advises other guests to be friendly. The humor is rooted in applying the game's harsh survival rules to a luxury resort experience.
“Great place. But I do recommend travel solo for this hotel. Any group bigger than 2 has very high chance of meeting rats in the lobby. Hotel has a medical section which is a hot spot for dead bodies. Also while you are here please try to be friendly to other guests.”
The connection appears to have started from a Reddit post. Shortly after developer Embark teased a new map in an October 13 blog post, a user tracked down the real hotel, speculating that the game's new map might be inspired by a real place. While it is not confirmed if the video game location is intentionally named after the Italian inn, the coincidence was enough for the game's community to embrace. A review left by a user named Bad Wolf seems to be the oldest on Google that mentions Arc Raiders, with nearly every subsequent review focusing on in-game items and enemies like blueprints, Bastions, and Shredders.
Another review praises the hotel for its abundance of drawers with epic loot and the chance to find a Venator blueprint with the right keycard. The same review, however, warns about "moving balls that burn you" and a "vase like robot thingy that would shred you to pieces." The reviewer also complains about raiders in strange red outfits, advising visitors to bring smoke, tagging, and trigger grenades.
“I love this place, tons of drawers that gives me epic loot and even Venator blueprint if you have the correct hotel keycard, but be careful about the moving balls that burn you and the vase like robot thingy that would shred you to pieces. The only complain is the raiders with strange red outfit that screams ‘Goop’ crawling in the corner waiting for you to pass by, bring smoke, tagging, and trigger nades just in case.”
Despite the in-game Stella Montis being known for its crushing difficulty, almost every review from an Arc Raiders player gives the real hotel a perfect score. There are a few exceptions. One user left a 3/5 rating, warning of Shredders, and another gave a 1/5, complaining of feeling "very sweaty after leaving." The hotel's management has not yet commented on its newfound fame within the gaming community or the sudden influx of fans. Another reviewer adds a simple, enthusiastic comment about their experience.
“Free Loadout Stella Montis go crazy. Love this place, always leave with 3+ blueprints. Remember to search the containers in the cargo docks, they have some goop.”
