Disney Quietly Delists 14 Classic PC Games, Leaving Fans Confused

I saw the news that Disney is pulling games from PC storefronts, and it is a strange one. Without any official announcement, 14 titles, including licensed games from the 90s and 00s, vanished from Steam. I saw that games like Disney's Hercules Action Game and Disney•Pixar Finding Nemo are no longer available to buy.

This move was first spotted by users on the forum Steamgifts and quickly shared across social media. While people who already owned the games can still access and play them in their libraries, new players have lost the chance to purchase them. The list of removed titles covers a significant time span, with the oldest, Stunt Island, dating from 1992 and the newest, Disney Fairies: Tinker Bell's Adventure, from 2014.

I checked other storefronts and saw the removal was not limited to Steam. Some of the delisted games, like the LucasArts titles Afterlife and Stunt Island, were also available on GOG but appear to have been removed from there at the same time.

Disney classic games that were removed from Steam:

  • Afterlife
  • Armed and Dangerous
  • Disney's Chicken Little: Ace in Action
  • Disney Fairies: Tinker Bell's Adventure
  • Disney's Hercules Action Game
  • Disney Planes
  • Disney The Princess and the Frog
  • Disney Winnie the Pooh
  • Disney•Pixar Cars: Radiator Springs Adventures
  • Disney•Pixar Finding Nemo
  • Disney•Pixar Toy Story Mania!
  • Lucidity
  • Phineas and Ferb: New Inventions
  • Stunt Island

For a number of games on this list, these PC storefronts were the only way to play them on a modern platform. Unless a player owns an original physical copy and a console old enough to run it, these games have become inaccessible. Delisting games is not a rare occurrence in the digital marketplace, as licensing agreements often expire. However, a company typically provides a warning before a game is removed, giving consumers a final opportunity to make a purchase. The lack of any prior notice from Disney is what makes this situation peculiar. The community response has been one of confusion and frustration, with many players questioning the silent removal.

"Why would they delist without ever giving us a warning first? They hate money?"— A user on Steamgifts

"I can live without those games but not telling us that Disney's Hercules and Disney Winnie the Pooh are being pulled out is a nasty move. Will be harder to replay my childhood games in the future..."— Another user on Steamgifts

This event reflects Disney's historically inconsistent commitment to its video games business. The company had a boom of licensed games in the 1990s and 2000s, which included many of the now-delisted titles, before its output slowed significantly. For several years, Disney seemed to have vanished from gaming entirely before re-entering the space with new titles like Disney Dreamlight Valley and Disney Illusion Island.

This recent delisting action, however, may signal another retreat, particularly for its properties outside the major Marvel and Star Wars franchises. The company's most recent non-Marvel/Star Wars games came out in 2023, and there appear to be no firm plans for more in the immediate future. Media outlets have reached out to Disney for comment, but no response has been provided.
