I Played The New Black Myth Wukong Patch And It Improves Performance
Game Science released a 2GB update for Black Myth: Wukong today, which my Steam client downloaded automatically. The patch, version 1.0.21.23831, targets performance problems I noticed were impacting play. The primary fix addresses an issue where the Super Resolution setting was not functioning as expected. Applying the Recommended Graphics Settings also failed to set Super Resolution correctly, a problem that this update corrects. For players like me who rely on this feature, the game now runs noticeably better. These fixes directly address the performance gap some users experienced.
The patch also corrects several visual inconsistencies. I observed the updated water behavior in the Heart of Birthstone area, which now moves more realistically. The developers fixed an issue with how snow reacted to the character in certain environments. Another important visual correction involves the Stone Monkey skills, where some ability effects would disappear prematurely on specific graphics quality settings. This fix ensures the visual feedback from abilities remains consistent. The game also appears more stable after the update. A specific crash, which occurred when using Non-White’s Spirit in the Hut of Immortality, has been resolved. This was a progression blocker for some, and its resolution is a significant step. The game now also correctly saves Controller Type settings after being relaunched, removing a minor but persistent annoyance.
Black Myth: Wukong January 14th update oatch notes:
- Fixed an issue where performance was below expectations due to a malfunctioning Super Resolution setting.
- Fixed an issue where Super Resolution could not be set correctly after applying Recommended Graphics Settings.
- Fixed incorrect water behaviour in the Heart of Birthstone area.
- Fixed incorrect snow interaction behaviour under certain conditions.
- Fixed an issue where using Non-White’s Spirit in the Hut of Immortality caused the game to crash.
- Fixed an issue where, under certain graphics quality settings, visual effects for some Stone Monkey skills disappeared too early.
- Fixed an issue where Controller Type settings were not saved correctly after relaunching the game.
For those with NVIDIA hardware, it is possible to use DLSS 4.5 in the game. I found that while an in-game toggle is absent, forcing Preset M through the NVIDIA App enables the feature. This can provide a further performance uplift beyond the fixes included in the official patch.
