Vampire Survivors Devs Reveal New Roguelike Deck-Building Spin-Off

The team behind Vampire Survivors has surprised fans with the announcement of an entirely new spin-off — a roguelike deck-building dungeon crawler titled Vampire Crawlers. Poncle’s iconic reverse bullet-hell title became one of the biggest unexpected hits of 2021, and now the studio is preparing to push the franchise into a new genre and gameplay direction.

Vampire Survivors Keeps Evolving

More than three years after release, Vampire Survivors continues to grow, receiving consistent free updates throughout 2025. These updates have introduced new maps, additional weapons, and fresh gameplay systems, giving players even more chaotic low-res monster-slaying fun. Most recently, the 1.14 update in October introduced online co-op, letting players battle together for the first time.

Vampire Crawlers Launching in 2026 ⚔️

Poncle officially revealed the spin-off during the Xbox Partner Preview showcase, confirming that Vampire Crawlers is set to launch in 2026. According to Xbox Wire, players will be able to choose from classic Vampire Survivors characters, each with unique abilities, and guide them through indoor and outdoor dungeon environments filled with monsters, loot, and familiar weapons.

However, combat will now play out through chaotic, fast-paced card battles, transforming the signature Vampire Survivors gameplay loop into a strategic deck-building experience.

Four Years in Development 🎨

Poncle founder Luca Galante confirmed that the game has been in development for almost four years. He listed a variety of inspirations, including JRPGs, CRPGs, and even classic card games like Solitaire. One feature Galante believes will define the game is deep card customization, designed to be flexible and approachable, allowing players to engage casually or min-max their builds as much as they want.

Despite the new direction, fans will find plenty of classic Vampire Survivors DNA, including familiar weapon evolution systems and recognizable music from the franchise’s soundtrack.

It will also launch day-one on Xbox Game Pass for Premium and Ultimate subscribers. While a specific release date has not been confirmed, Galante hinted that Vampire Crawlers may only be the first of several planned spin-offs, with Poncle having multiple future projects already in development.
