Hideo Kojima commented on Death Stranding 3

Hideo Kojima responded to questions regarding the release of Death Stranding 3. The developer stated that he has already conceived a concept for the new installment, but currently does not plan to work on its development. During an interview in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) as part of the Death Stranding 2 world tour, he was asked about a possible third part. He replied that the ending of Death Stranding 2 served as a conclusion for the first and second games, but the concept for the third already exists — and he hopes someone else can bring it to life.

“Right now, I’m not planning to do this, because the ending of Death Stranding 2 was, for me, the conclusion of the first and second games. But the concept for DS3 already exists, and I have it saved. I hope someone will be able to create it instead of me.” — Hideo Kojima

Earlier, Kojima mentioned that he has been reflecting on his own mortality and left a USB drive with ideas as a sort of testament for Kojima Productions, so the studio could continue developing new projects after him. At the same time, he does not want anyone to copy his work, so he currently does not plan to pass on the baton.

“I’m not going to pass the baton to anyone. I’d rather break it…. There’s no need to hand over ‘Hideo Kojima’ to anyone else. If I ask my team to make games the way I do, the company won’t survive and will shut down.” — Hideo Kojima

At present, Kojima has many other plans: Death Stranding will receive a film adaptation in partnership with A24 and director Michael Sarnoski, and the developer himself is working on two new projects — the horror title OD for Xbox and a spy action game called Physint.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was released on June 26, 2025, and received high critical acclaim. The game is a third-person open-world adventure-action title where players must deliver cargo while overcoming enemies.
