Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy Likely Coming to Switch 2, Hints Director
A new video featuring Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi has given fans reason to believe that the entire FF7 remake trilogy may be coming to the Switch 2. During the reveal of Nintendo’s new console, Square Enix already confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will be released on the Switch 2 (no release date yet), but that’s only the first part. The second part, Rebirth, is already available on PS5 and PC, while the third part is still in development.
In the video, Hamaguchi shares his excitement about working with Nintendo for the first time — after all, the original FF7 inspired him to pursue a career in game development. He emphasized that the Switch 2 has enough power to run the entire remake series and said he’d be happy if different generations of players could experience these games together.
While Rebirth is currently a PS5 console exclusive, it looks like a Switch 2 port is on the horizon. This also raises hopes that Xbox players might eventually get the chance to experience the legendary Final Fantasy lineup. The big question is what Square Enix will do with part three — will it be another timed PlayStation exclusive, or will they aim for a simultaneous multi-platform release?
It’s worth noting that since 2024, Square Enix has been aggressively pushing a multiplatform strategy after Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Final Fantasy 16 fell short of sales expectations. So in the future, we might not only see FF7 on Switch 2 but also FF16. For now, we’re waiting for news on the trilogy’s finale — the story is already complete; we just need a release date and platform details.
