Minecraft Officially Ends VR Support in Latest Bedrock Edition Update
The latest update for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition brings a mix of exciting new features and bittersweet farewells. While players now have access to customizable Flat World presets and a batch of gameplay improvements, support for virtual and mixed reality has officially come to an end — marking the close of a unique chapter in the sandbox game’s history.
What’s New in the Update
Version 1.21.80introducesFlat World presets, giving players the ability to create perfectly flat worlds from the get-go — ideal for creative builds without the need to clear out rough terrain. Alongside this addition, the patch includes several bug fixes aimed at improving the overall experience, such as audio enhancements and block behavior refinements.

Goodbye to VR and Mixed Reality
One of the most significant changes confirmed in the patch notes is the removal of VR and mixed reality gameplay support. This move follows the earlier termination of PlayStation VR compatibility in 2024 and fulfills Mojang’s previous announcement — made in October 2024 — that virtual reality support would officially end in Spring 2025.
Although the original shutdown was planned for March, players managed to enjoy a few additional weeks of VR gameplay. Fans previously used mods like Vivecraft to immerse themselves in Minecraft through platforms like SteamVR and Oculus Rift, transforming the game into a fully interactive, immersive experience.
While this decision may not come as a surprise, it’s still a disappointment for many who appreciated the added sense of depth and presence that VR brought to the game. Interestingly, some casual players admitted they weren’t even aware that Minecraft ever had VR support — but agreed it sounded like a fascinating feature.
Other Recent Changes
In parallel to the Bedrock update, the Java Edition of Minecraft also received a recent snapshot in April, tweaking crafting recipes for items like dried ghast and leads, and applying updates to potion mechanics tied to backend technical changes.
Meanwhile, the latest Bedrock patch continues to refine gameplay with experimental features, such as updates to leads. Players can now test new uses for leads, like tethering mobs together or attaching them to boats — a clever mechanic that feels reminiscent of Michonne’s zombie chains from The Walking Dead.
