‘Minecraft’ Movie Sequel Discussions Already Happening After $301 Million Debut
Just days after its record-breaking opening weekend, A Minecraft Movie is already sparking discussions about a potential sequel. With a whopping $301 million in global box office revenue on its debut weekend, it’s no surprise that Warner Bros. is already looking to expand on the success of the film.
Previously, we talked about the unexpected success of Warner Bros. in the first screenings of the film.
Director Jared Hess, known for his work on Napoleon Dynamite, recently shared his excitement about the possibility of revisiting the world of Minecraft. In an interview with Deadline, Hess reflected on the film’s success and hinted at plenty more stories to explore within the vast Minecraft universe.
"It would be so much fun. We had so much fun making this movie,"
Hess said, adding that the game’s expansive world offers numerous untapped possibilities. Fans are already buzzing with excitement after a key teaser in the film’s post-credits scene, where the iconic character Alex makes her debut, setting the stage for potential future storylines.
The post-credits scene saw Alex introduce herself to Steve (voiced by Jack Black), who had returned to the real world at the end of the movie. Alex, another critically important character in the Minecraft universe, invites Steve to her new home, which fans have been eagerly speculating about. According to Hess, Alex is "the other massively critical character in Minecraft," making her an obvious choice for a sequel. Fans of the game and the film are already hyped about the potential for more adventures featuring the duo.
With such a strong reception from audiences, it’s clear that A Minecraft Movie is just the beginning of what could be an ongoing franchise. Fans eager for more Minecraft content can pass the time by checking out exclusive clips of the film’s unfinished version, though for many, the promise of a sequel is more than enough to keep the excitement alive. As Hess noted,
"It seems like there's already talk about it happening, so I'm super excited."
As the film continues to perform well at the box office, it’s only a matter of time before we hear more official news about the sequel. Until then, fans will be left eagerly awaiting their next chance to dive back into the world of Minecraft.
