There Is a Risk That GTA 6 Could Not Be Nominated at The Game Awards 2026

November 19, 2026, could be the most important date for the gaming industry in recent years, as it marks the release of the most anticipated video game of the year—GTA 6. Even some major companies have officially declared this day as a holiday, allowing everyone to fully enjoy the long-awaited return to Vice City after more than 20 years.

Nevertheless, two weeks after the release of GTA 6, another major gaming event is scheduled—The Game Awards 2026, which will take place on December 10th in Los Angeles. Given the scale and hype surrounding Rockstar Games' new title, GTA 6 should be in multiple categories, possibly including Game of the Year. However, for now, this is far from being guaranteed.

According to the latest report from Polygon, the deadline for submitting nominations for The Game Awards is around the middle of November. Considering Rockstar Games’ strategy for GTA 6 testing, there's a chance many players won't have enough time to fully experience the game. A previous rumor from a Brazilian insider suggests that none of the upcoming reviewers will receive a game key this time; instead, journalists and media representatives will be invited to a closed location where they will be able to test the game; Rockstar Games plans to implement this system to prevent any further leaks of GTA 6.

Although it is currently difficult to predict whether GTA 6 will be involved in any of The Game Awards 2026 nominations, we already know examples of video games that were released in November and later, and it was too late for them to qualify for TGA nominations. These titles are Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Demon's Souls (Remake), Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and others.
