Cyberpunk 2077 Attracted Over 100,000 Concurrent Players on Steam for the First Time in a Few Years

This week, CD Projekt RED announced that Cyberpunk 2077, an open-world action RPG that came out in 2020, has surpassed 40 million copies sold worldwide. It took the game even less time to achieve this milestone than 2015’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which sold 10 million fewer copies in its first five years after release. Moreover, this announcement has apparently encouraged players to make their return in Night City—as a result, the game demonstrates a very large number of players at the same time.

According to SteamDB, over the past 24 hours, more than 100,000 players—specifically 101,558—were playing Cyberpunk 2077 simultaneously. What's more, current player activity remains above 80,000, which is an impressive figure for a five-year-old game that hasn’t received any updates in recent years. This surge in activity is likely connected to the ongoing Steam sale, where Cyberpunk 2077 is available at a 70% discount for just $18.

CD Projekt RED is planning to develop the Cyberpunk game series, as they are currently working on its sequel, announced back in 2022. It’s been confirmed that Cyberpunk 2 will feature a multiplayer mode, a new city inspired by Chicago—though a return to Night City is also planned. As for Cyberpunk 2077, unlike The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the game will not receive new story DLC. CD Projekt Red previously confirmed that they are not planning to add any new content to the game.

At the same time, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, set in the same universe as the video game, will release this October on Netflix, as revealed via the latest leak, with another teaser was shown last month.

Cyberpunk 2 is currently in development for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. The game’s release date is currently unknown.
