CD Projekt RED Announced Cyberpunk 2077 Broke Another Milestone and Sold 40 Million Copies Worldwide

Released in December 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 managed to earn the trust among gamers, though it wasn’t quick and easy. But as a result, the game has become one of the best open-world action RPGs since then. And according to a recent announcement, the game continues to sell well, having reached an important milestone.

On their social media, CD Projekt RED announced that the total sales of Cyberpunk 2077 have surpassed 40 million copies across all platforms in less than five years since its release. It’s an impressive milestone for the studio’s new IP, and you can check out the official statement below:

In terms of sales, Cyberpunk 2077 has also managed to surpass, perhaps, the most famous of CD Projekt RED’s titles—The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Over five years, The Witcher 3 sold only 30 million copies, which is significantly fewer than Cyberpunk 2077.

Just like with the Witcher game series, the studio plans to continue expanding the Cyberpunk franchise. Currently, they’re working on a sequel to the original video game, which is expected to be even bigger and better. It has been confirmed that Cyberpunk 2 will feature multiplayer and a new city inspired by Chicago—though a return to Night City is also planned. However, unlike The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Cyberpunk 2077 will not receive new story DLC. CD Projekt Red previously confirmed that they are not planning to add any new content to the game. In addition, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will be released this autumn on Netflix, set in the same universe as the game.
