Fortnite x The Walking Dead: Negan, Walkers, and Comic Book Chaos Arrive in New Crossover

Epic Games has officially unveiled a brand-new crossover between Fortnite and The Walking Dead, bringing a horde of fresh content to both UEFN and Fortnite Creative. The update introduces Walker NPCs, two new UEFN templates, unique weapons, and a variety of new Prefabs and Galleries, all inspired by the gritty, undead world of the iconic franchise.

Created by Robert Kirkman, The Walking Dead rose to pop culture prominence through its groundbreaking comic series and the hugely successful AMC television adaptation. The franchise has since expanded into several spin-offs, including Fear the Walking Dead and the recently launched The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. Now, Fortnite is tapping into that popularity with a crossover that’s sure to excite fans of both worlds.

Since its debut in 2017, Fortnite has grown beyond a simple battle royale, evolving into a massive creative platform with experiences like Fortnite Creative, Save the World, and LEGO Fortnite. With Fortnite OG recently launching its Season 3 update—featuring the return of Lucky Landing, the fan-favorite 50v50 mode, classic weapons, and a new OG Pass—players are already diving back in. A newly released trailer and official social media posts confirm the arrival of Negan, one of the franchise’s most notorious characters. Players can wield his iconic Lucille melee weapon and the deadly Shiva Shotgun, and encounter comic book-style Walkers that can be toggled with a special filter to give gameplay a stylized, graphic novel aesthetic.

Before the announcement, rumors were swirling about Negan joining Fortnite, with some speculating the theme would align more closely with The Walking Dead: Dead City. Notably, popular leaker HYPEXsuggested we might even see Maggie Greene included in the bundle—but so far, only Negan has been confirmed.

Fortnite fans will remember that this isn’t the first time the undead have invaded the Island. Back in 2020, Daryl Dixon and Michonne made their Fortnite debut, with their arrival revealed at The Game Awards. Then in 2021, Rick Grimes was added to the roster for 1,500 V-bucks, much to the community’s excitement.

While the current update has been praised for its visuals—especially the Walker NPCs and gritty comic book flair—some players have expressed disappointment that not all TV show assets are available for use on custom islands.
