Rockstar Games banned GTA players from selling cryptocurrencies on servers
A statement has appeared on the official website of Rockstar Games in which the developers of Grand Theft Auto have banned players from selling non-fungible tokens and other crypto assets on GTA Online and Red Dead Online game servers. Technical support turned to the players, as there have already been similar cases on the open spaces of the servers and the creators of the great game series want to stop this activity.
Despite this, Rockstar Games noted that they believe in the field of cryptocurrencies and in particular in non-fungible tokens, but in its adequate manifestation. They asked GTA V fans not to abuse their trademarks to promote their creativity and not to conduct such acts of sale. They did not specify what exactly this statement is connected with, but it can be assumed that the players are already actively involved in the sale of cryptocurrencies on the Rockstar servers and this was discovered by the server administration.
Earlier, journalists found out that the developers of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption and the game publisher are expressing their interest in cryptocurrencies. Various media outlets have also revealed that, under the new terms of the partnership agreement between the company and CEO Strauss Zelnick, CEO bonuses will be linked to microtransactions and deals made with NFT tokens. How exactly these same bonuses on Strauss's salary will be expressed has not yet been specified.
In addition, information was also found about the connection of NFT tokens with the next numbered part of the game in the Grand Theft Auto series. The sixth part can get the support of the main cryptocurrency. According to the developers, bitcoin payments will be made exclusively in the game, as it was, for example, in GTA Online and Red Dead Online.
In addition, users of Grand Theft Auto VI seem to be able to receive rewards for some missions in bitcoin equivalent and even sell virtual currency on game exchanges. All this suggests that the concept of gaming can increasingly become related to the concept of cryptogaming and the cryptocurrency sphere can be expressed not only in the metaverse sector, but also become part of the video game ecosystem.
In September of this year, Grand Theft Auto VI was dragged into history with the biggest leak in video game history. On the 18th, the blogger obtained unauthorized access to the game files and leaked them to the network. As a result, users were able to see about 90 gameplay videos in which they could see the developments of the game. Along with this, they confirmed some rumors and denied others. Rockstar Games reported that such a case should not greatly affect the development of the sixth part of GTA, however, journalists and players are confident that this is nothing more than a consolation and problems in the game studio will bother developers for a long time to come.
Not all video game developers support cryptocurrencies in the field of gaming. So this summer, the Minecraft leadership announced its negative attitude towards non-fungible tokens. In their opinion, the sphere of cryptocurrencies can adversely affect the economy of the video game. Developers are actively monetizing the sale of skins in Minecraft and dedicated Realms servers. They believe that if support for non-fungible tokens is also added to the ecosystem, then this can break the system and stop bringing tangible profits.
On the other hand, there are other video game creators who in turn actively support the NFT industry. For example, Ubisoft wanted to make non-fungible tokens an integral part of the ecosystem of their next and existing games. This decision was not to the liking of the gamers, as a result of which they rebelled and began to demand the rejection of such a decision. Due to this behavior, the publisher has decided not to add NFT tokens to their next projects.
A similar situation developed at one time around the expected shooter STALKER 2 from GSC Game World. A Ukrainian game studio has announced that it wants to add non-fungible tokens to its game, which gamers are looking forward to. The latter reported that they did not want to see the long-awaited continuation of the cult series and asked the developers to abandon the idea. They made concessions to gamers and did not add non-fungible tokens to STALKER 2.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said in turn that the company will not prohibit video game developers from introducing NFT technology into the gaming economy. His opinion is that developers have the freedom to choose, and if they want to insert non-fungible tokens into their projects, then let them do as they want.
