Full immersion - a VR helmet has appeared that can kill the player due to death in the game

The development of gaming and cryptogaming in recent years has been going faster and faster. Developers of devices and games come up with new ways to give an unforgettable experience to video game lovers. This time we will talk about, perhaps, the most original way to give the player a user experience. Palmer Lucky came up with a helmet that will force players to approach the issue of gaming very carefully, otherwise death awaits users. Such a device, of course, is unlikely to become widespread, but the next fantasies of futurist writers and filmmakers can already be translated into reality.

The idea of a player's loss and later his death has been exploited in various works for quite a long time, although not very often. Palmer Lucky, one of the founders of Oculus, the developer of VR devices, decided to try to bring such an idea to life and he succeeded. His headset can kill the user. The idea was able to be realized thanks to electronic charges that can give such an impulse to a person’s head that he will lose not only in the game, but also in life.

Three explosive charges and their further activation from photosensors were enough for the founder of Oculus to accomplish his plan:

I used the three burst charges that I usually use for various projects, tying their activation to the readings of a photosensor that is able to determine when the headset screen turns red at a certain frequency, which allows for very easy integration with the end of the game. When a suitable screen is shown indicating the end of the game, the charges are initiated, immediately destroying the user's brain.

Fans of the anime Sword Art Online should appreciate such a device, but they are unlikely to want to use it for obvious reasons. It was just one of those works that talked about the idea of the relationship between the player's life in the online world and the real world.

What was the purpose of such an invention by Palmer Lucky? In his opinion, although users can already be in the VR world and the graphics are already at a normal level, however, the real effect of presence can only be given by the understanding that if the user dies in the game, then he will “lose” in real life. Such high stakes can really raise the level of adrenaline in the body and make players feel something that they could not feel before in computer games.

The founder of Oculus seriously wants to create a helmet that will be removed from the player only in case of victory or defeat.

Despite the partial success of the tests, Lucky said that he did not wear the headset, as it still needs to be finalized. Of the shortcomings, there are flaws that can cause the helmet to work incorrectly and take the player's life, despite the fact that he has not yet lost his life in the game. He said that he was still working on finalizing the system, which should subsequently correctly analyze the situation and undermine the charges only if all the conditions for this were met.

Earlier we talked about the fact that Interpol is extremely concerned about the possibility of developing cybersecurity breaches and expanding the world of crime towards cryptogaming and metaverses. Such a helmet could theoretically create new problems for the International Police, and someone might even think of implementing the idea of the series “The Squid Game” in a remote format. In general, watching the development of reality augmentation in the field of games is interesting, but, apparently, it is also not safe.
