Yesterday at The International 2022: Western Europe Qualifier, the third round of closed qualifiers for The International 2022 took place. Secret and Nigma played in the first match for life, and ITB and Goonsquad met in the second.
The game of the giants ended with the defeat of Nigma and the departure of Kuro and company from the qualifiers, but in the second match goonsquad suffered a disappointing defeat from ITB. It looks like an ordinary day in the qualifications, but it was not like that.
In the 4th round of the lower bracket of The International 2022: Western Europe Qualifier Team Secret met ITB. After the first map, the teams went on a long pause, and the third was not able to start at all.
It turned out that the Valve servers were very buggy, which caused the transfer of the 3rd map of the Secret - ITB duel. Everything would be fine, but the problem with the servers was already in the match between goonsquad and ITB.
According to goonsquad player Limmp, the team contacted PGL tournament administrators, but they ignored goonsquad's claims. Such behavior of the tournament admins made Limmp dissatisfied with the PGL policy.
Unfortunately PGL don't respect goonsquad as much as Secret so we had to play 3 games with packet loss while they changed server and postponed the match.
Limmp together with goonsquad finished their performance in the TOP-6. ITB, who advanced further, lost to Team Secret, thus stopping one step away from the coveted TI.
Recall that The International 2022: Western Europe Qualifier takes place from September 13 to 17 of this year in an online format. The top 12 Western European teams that did not qualify for the World Championship based on DPC points are fighting for the only slot in the main stage of The International 2022. The 2nd and 3rd place finishers will travel to Singapore to compete in the Last Chance Qualifier.
