Andreas 'Sumelsson' Samuelsson recently commented on the club's decision to build an international CS: GO roster. He argued that it was not so easy to find e-sportsmen suitable for Fnatic, and therefore the management of the e-sports club decided to look outside their country:

It was a busy summer period, culminating in an assessment of all possible options for the future of Fnatic's roster. We analyzed over 100 players during this time to create a holistic view of what options are available to us during this overhaul. After the first careful consideration, we decided that the best solution for us would be to assemble an international squad. We have tremendous respect and admiration for the Swedish CS: GO scene, however we felt that the international roster would provide us with a lot more options and flexibility in the future. Our first challenge after this decision was to find an experienced and dedicated IGL who would share our vision of how best to be successful in today's CS era.

In addition, Samuelsson commented on the recent move of Alex 'ALEX' McMeekin and William 'mezii' Merriman to fnatic. He believes that the newcomers who played earlier in the ranks of Cloud9 will complement each other perfectly and get along well:

I am very pleased to announce that we have signed a contract with Alex, who, in our opinion, is ideal for this role in the new international structure. Alex is highly qualified, vast experience and is known for his professional approach to the IGL role. To develop this, we also wanted to find a hungry and promising player who shares our drive and ambition. We followed William for a long period of time and felt that he had what it takes to become one of the best shooters in the game. We not only believe that William is extremely versatile, but when combined with excellent communication skills and being considered an experienced teammate, we think he has tremendous potential.

On August 3, it was reported that Fnatic changed their roster by signing two foreigners. Instead of Jesper 'JW' Veksel and Maikil 'Golden' Selim, the team will be replaced by Alex 'ALEX' McMeekin and William 'mezii' Merriman. Both esportsmen were previously listed in the ranks of the acclaimed Cloud9 roster, which was supposed to cost the club more than $ 6,000,000.

The debut of the updated Fnatic roster will take place at ESL Pro League Season 14. There, the team got into the same group with such rivals as FaZe Clan, Natus Vincere, BIG, mousesports and Evil Geniuses.
