Team Liquid Replaces FunPlus Phoenix at VALORANT Champions Tour 2022: Stage 1 Masters - Reykjavík
Riot Games has issued an official statement announcing changes to the roster for VALORANT Champions Tour 2022: Stage 1 Masters - Reykjavík. Due to travel restrictions around the world related to the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian crisis and the COVID-19 situation, Team Liquid will replace FunPlus Phoenix and take part in the championship in Iceland.
Travel restrictions in Ukraine and Russia, as well as existing restrictions due to COVID-19, continue to create numerous problems for traveling around the world. Over the past few weeks, our event teams have been working to resolve an issue involving FunPlus Phoenix players on VALORANT Champions Tour 2022: Stage 1 Masters - Reykjavík.
In particular, we considered the possibility of making changes to the composition of the team, and also kept in touch with government officials to obtain visas and permits to enter the country. Unfortunately, through no fault of their own, FunPlus Phoenix will not be able to present the full roster at VALORANT Champions Tour 2022: Stage 1 Masters - Reykjavík. Although we want to be open, it is necessary to maintain a minimum level of lineup continuity for reasons of fairness to all participants. We would like to congratulate the team on their successful performance at the last championship.
In light of these events, Team Liquid will take part in VALORANT Champions Tour 2022: Masters Stage 1 - Reykjavík as a representative of the EMEA region. This means that all three slots will be occupied by teams from this region.
Recall that FunPlus Phoenix became the winner of VALORANT Champions Tour 2022: EMEA Stage 1 Challengers, defeating G2 Esports in the grand final. At the same time, it was previously reported that VALORANT Champions Tour 2022: Masters Stage 1 - Reykjavík can take place without participants from Russia who cannot visit Iceland due to current restrictions.
The current roster for VALORANT Champions Tour 2022: Masters Stage 1 - Reykjavík is as follows: Team Liquid, Fnatic, G2 Esports, OpTic Gaming, The Guard, XERXIA, Paper Rex, ZETA DIVISION, DRX and LOUD.
