Next week, Twitter integration will be disabled for PlayStation gaming consoles
"This means that the ability for users to view content published on X on their PS5 and PS4 consoles, as well as share and view their own content, trophies, and other gaming activities on X directly from PS5/PS4 (or link their X account for this purpose) will no longer be available," the company announced.
Sony's support site also provides alternative methods for players to share screen captures from PS5 and PS4 games, including using the PlayStation app for the new console.
While Sony has not confirmed the reasons for disabling X functionality, Microsoft did the same for Xbox consoles in April, following what many believe to be high charges for access to the social media platform's API.
This month, Sony is releasing a new model of the PS5. Similar to the launch version, the new one will be available in standard and digital editions. According to the company's statement, the new console is more compact by over 30%, and its weight has been reduced by 18% and 24% respectively compared to the current model.
Unlike the launch model, the new PS5 Digital Edition will support a detachable Blu-ray drive, which can be purchased separately.
The new PS5 is expected to be available on November 8 and comes with bundles including Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Modern Warfare 3 games.
