Catherine O’Hara Was Supposed to Be in The Last of Us Season 3
Last week, Catherine O’Hara (Home Alone, Beetlejuice) sadly passed away at the age of 71. The actress was part of HBO’s The Last of Us TV show, and she was set to return in the upcoming third season.
During the Scriptnotes podcast, TV series showrunner Craig Mazin has shared his tribute and words of support to the late Catherine O’Hara and confirmed she was set to reprise her role of Gail Lynch in The Last of Us season 3, as you can check below:
"She could do anything. She was 71, and she was a sprightly 71 and fun, and also I'll say, being here in Canada, I was very aware of how proud — well, I knew how proud she was to be Canadian - I know how proud Canada is of her. And Canada has given us per capita more funny people than anywhere in the world. And she's up there with the very, very greatest.
"Cheers to Catherine O'Hara, who is hopefully somewhere out in the universe enjoying fruit wine. "On behalf of humanity, just a deep gratitude - we were lucky that we had Catherine O'Hara. We were lucky. I would trade 1,000 Ben Turpins for one Catherine O'Hara.
I don't think it's a big spoiler to say she was gonna be in our show again because of course she was. She was so good. But she was stolen from all of us. The thing that's upsetting me is I don't get to see her in other stuff — like I don't care about my show. I wanted to see her in other things cause what else was gonna happen."
The production of The Last of Us season 3 will begin this spring and will last until November. The release date is currently unknown.
