Game-Changer Unveiled: Krafton's Bold Move to Introduce Emotional AI Companions in PUBG - A Paradigm Shift in Gaming Dynamics!
South Korea's gaming behemoth, Krafton Inc., is set to revolutionize PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) by introducing virtual characters powered by generative AI in the coming year. These AI companions will emulate human gamers, engaging in emotive voice conversations and providing tactical insights.
The company's groundbreaking move was announced on Monday, revealing that Krafton will present five papers, including those focused on AI players, at the Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS) 2023 main track in New Orleans until December 16. NeurIPS stands as the world's largest AI conference, where tech giants like Google and Nvidia showcase their advancements in AI research.
Krafton, ranking fourth among South Korean companies in the number of papers presented on the main track, aims to unveil generative AI technology, fostering a gaming experience where players can enjoy the company of AI companions resembling friends. The objective is to integrate the game-specific generative AI known as Virtual Friend into PUBG next year.
A source from Krafton affirmed that the technologies outlined in these papers would be implemented in game development by year-end, facilitating interactions with AI at a level comparable to ChatGPT. This includes collaborative efforts and encounters with AI adversaries. The source also mentioned, "Technologies such as text articulation and mimicking facial expressions in 3D graphics will be applied to game development within the year."
Krafton has demonstrated its commitment to AI integration by establishing a dedicated organization for AI game development. The ReLU Games game studio was created as a distinct entity in June, with a primary focus on crafting new games utilizing AI voice recognition technology.
The company's strategic preparations for a comprehensive adoption of generative AI include the establishment of the Deep Learning Division in 2021 and the formation of the AI Ethics Committee in April of the current year. Krafton proudly disclosed that over 90% of its workforce actively incorporates AI in their daily tasks.
