KRAFTON Unveils PUBG Competitive Ecosystem Roadmap for 2023
KRAFTON has officially unveiled the roadmap for the PUBG competitive ecosystem for 2023. The organizers have plans to completely abandon the PUBG Continental Series online tournaments in order to add an alternative PUBG Global Series track in a LAN format.
Esports in PUBG has been special from the very beginning. Even before the official launch of the game, we had PUBG esports teams formed and several fan-created competitive events hosted by players interested in showing off their skills in this exciting new genre. Our fans laid the foundation for the PUBG Esports we have today, but now it's our turn to share our plans for the future of PUBG Esports.
In particular, the developers intend to revive the PUBG Global Series, which was suspended in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Then a new PUBG Continental Series track appeared in the discipline, which was held in an online format. However, now KRAFTON intends to return to the roots, thereby reviving the LAN scene.
Starting next year, the PUBG Global Series will be a new full-featured TIER-1 tournament for the top teams in their regions. However, the organizers are not going to abandon the PUBG Global Championship, which will take place at the end of the season - in November-December. In addition, the PUBG Nations Cup 2023 championship will be organized in the summer, in which national teams will compete.
PUBG Competitive Ecosystem Schedule for 2023:
- Regional Online Qualifiers (March)
- PUBG Global Series 1 (April)
- PUBG Nations Cup 2023 (June)
- Regional Online Qualifiers (July)
- PUBG Global Series 2 (September)
- Regional Online Qualifiers (October)
- PUBG Global Championship 2023 (November-December)
The main innovation of the discipline should be an affiliate program for each region. In particular, the developers will implement the Global Partner Team Program, which will offer special benefits and rewards to the best esports partners.
Partner teams will reportedly be selected from existing esports teams, and program membership will be reviewed annually. The first selection will begin after the end of the PUBG Global Championship 2022. According to the organizers, global partners will be guaranteed a slot to participate in the PUBG Global Series.
In addition, the developers have revealed plans to open a dedicated PUBG esports arena in South Korea, with doors opening in the first half of 2024.
