New York Excelsior Sign Gesture

The leadership of the American esports club announces on Twitter about the arrival of Hong 'Gesture' Jay-hee to the ranks of the New York Excelsior. Along with this came another interesting statement. Gesture has retired from Overwatch and will now be a mentor to his players.

Gesture's career as a professional Overwatch player began in 2017 and ended 5 years later. He paved the way for esports by joining esports club GC Busan. Later, he moved to the London Spitfire, with whom he achieved the greatest success, and later continued his career in the ranks of the Seoul Dynasty, with whom he also reached great heights. Playing under the GC Busan Gesture tag, he won tournaments such as Overwatch APEX Season 4 ($91,937), APAC Premier 2017 ($105,693) and OWL - Inaugural Season Stage 1 Title Matches ($100,000). As part of the London Spitfire, there was the most striking victory in his life. On July 28, 2018, in the Overwatch League grand final with a prize pool of $1,700,000, the name of his team appeared on the scoreboard with the addition “Winner”, and the cup raised above the heads of the esports players meant not only the coveted status of a triumphant at the main Overwatch championship, but and earned a major cash award of $1,000,000.

On October 10, 2020, the esportsman was close to repeating his success and surpassing it, however, in the Overwatch League Grand Finals, his Seoul Dynasty team failed to defeat the San Francisco Shock. Their opponents became champions and earned the main reward of $1,500,000, but Gesture and his comrades shouldn't be upset either. For the title of silver medalist, a prize of $750,000 was due, which was the second largest and most important prize in the Korean's career. Yesterday it became known about the end of Gesture's career as a player. Now he will master the profession of a coach, and he will receive his first experience in a new role for himself as part of the New York Excelsior. Hong 'Gesture' Jay-hee has earned over $400,000 in his 5-year career, which is far from every professional Overwatch player.
