Gambit Esports closes League of Legends division
Yesterday, April 22, the management of Gambit Esports announced the closure of the League of Legends division. Various lineups fought for the club's interests from 2013 to 2021.
The exact reasons for abandoning the LoL unit are not named, but there may be several of them. The first thing that comes to mind is COVID-19 and recent performances by Gambit.
In recent years, Gambit have been losing the race for the title of the strongest team in the CIS and have not played internationally. In 2021, they finished 3-4th in the LCL Spring 2021, and most recently won the Continental League in 2018 at LCL Summer 2018.
Previously, the team was the first representative of the CIS on the world stage. Gambit took 5th-8th place at Season 3 World Championship, Mid-Season Ivnitational and 2nd place at Rift Rivals 2018: LCL vs TCL vs VSC.
