2020 World Championship Champion retires from LoL
Former FunPlus Phoenix player and concurrent World Champion 2020 announced the end of his career as a professional player in League of Legends. He did not give exact reasons. On his Weibo page, he simply said that after a long time playing LoL, he decided to retire and thanked FunPlus Phoenix for the fruitful cooperation and the gift they gave in the end. In addition, GimGoon said he has other information to share in the near future.
GimGoon's career began in October 2013 under the Xenics Storm tag. He also played on teams like Samsung BLue, KT ROlster Bullets, Energy Pacemaker. All, Game Talents and of course FUnPlus Phoenix. The esportsman achieved the greatest successes together with his teammates from FunPlus Phoenix. A streak of great success overtook him in 2019. The debut in the 2019/2020 season turned out to be not very successful, but you can't call it an outright failure either. The team took 3rd place at the LPL Spring 2019 and thus earned $ 74,669. After that, the team became a silver medalist at Rift Rivals 2019: LCK vs LPL vs LMS vs VCS, for which they received a reward of $ 40,000. Further more. FunPlus Phoenix, along with topper GimGoon, were able to show the best result during LPL Summer 2019 and take first place at the event, and at the same time earn $ 210,159 along with an invitation to the 2019 World Championship. The 2019 World Championship was also submitted to the Sino-Korean team. Winning the 2019 World Championship earned FunPlus Phoenix $ 834,375.
Later, the team took 3rd place at the LPL Spring 2020, thus earning $ 70,796, and after that the roster could not show a good game in the summer Chinese split, and therefore FunPlus Phoenix settled on the 7-8 line in the standings. In November 2020, GimGoon ended its partnership with the esports organization and became a free agent. The player and the organization parted on a good note, and a year of break in relations did not prevent the club from making a farewell gift for the cybersportsman.
In fact, in his eight-year career, the 25-year-old GimGoon was able to win only two events: the LPL Summer 2019 and the 2019 World Championship. This was enough to break the $ 250,000 prize pool. The exact amount of funds in tournaments, by the way, is $ 252,048. Thus, the end of GimGoon's career turned out to be beautiful and the Korean was able to end the career of a professional player with a clear conscience, knowing that he was able to win the main LoL tournament in 2020.
