Ubisoft is changing the release strategy of their projects
During the quarterly report, Ubisoft announced its intention to change its strategy for releasing games. Now the company will focus not only on large AAA projects, but also on small F2P titles.
With this approach, Ubisoft wants to significantly expand the audience of their famous franchises. Tom Clancy's The Division: Heartland is already preparing for release, which will become a shareware spin-off of the Tom Clancy's The Division series.
Commentary from Ubisoft CFO Frederic Douguet
As part of the evolution of our increasingly diverse line of games, we have decided to move away from our previously stated goal of producing 3-4 premium AAA games per year.
This monetization model is no longer an illustration of the value of a title. For example, our expectations for Just Dance and Riders Republic align with those of many AAA games in the industry.
In addition, we are developing F2P games that will catch up with our AAA in the long term.
In this case, we are only talking about the financial evolution of the company. It will not in any way affect the volume of quality content that we create - both premium and shareware.
Network experts are confident that other companies will soon adopt a similar distribution model for games. The Call of Duty model is an example of an excellent implementation of such a strategy, according to analyst Daniel Ahmad.
