God of War Laufey Has Been Postponed - New Release Date Revealed

We have received news that one of the most anticipated games of 2027 has been delayed—fortunately, the delay is only a couple of months, as the developers need extra time to polish the game to perfection.

Santa Monica Studio has confirmed God of War: Laufey, the new installment in the franchise starring Faye, has been delayed to May 20, 2027. The game was originally scheduled for release on February 16, but the developers explained they need more time to polish the game. The full statement from Santa Monica Studio is available below:

Since the reveal of God of War Laufey in June, we’ve been deeply grateful to see so much excitement for Faye’s journey throught the Everywhen. We don’t take for granted the trust placed in the studio to make an extraordinary experience worthy of the passion and dedication of our fans.

With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to delay God of War Laufey’s release to May 20th, 2027.

We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pusing the game to its fullest potential.

On behalf of everyone on the team, we appreciate your patience and we’ll be back to share more updates soon!

The events of God of War: Laufey unfold in parallel with God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarok in a place called Everywhen—the transcendent afterlife realm of the gods. The new project is expected to significantly expand the universe’s lore and lay the groundwork for the next installment, in which Kratos—as previously confirmed by the developers —will be the lead character. Rumor has it that the new game may be set in Egypt.

This February, Santa Monica also announced God of War Trilogy Remake, whose release date remains unknown. Additionally, Amazon is working on adapting God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarok into a TV series. Dave Bautista plays the role of Kratos; he replaced Ryan Hurst, who was injured during filming, and the actor recently revealed that he has almost regained the physical condition needed to prepare for the resumption of filming.

God of War Laufey launches on May 20, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
