Insomniac Games Is Teasing Their Next Project Related to X-Men - First Details Revealed

This September, Insomniac Games released Marvel's Wolverine—the latest installment in its superhero universe. And while the game received mixed reviews, new job postings suggest their next project (or one of their next projects) will focus specifically on the X-Men.

As Insider Gaming has discovered, Insomniac Games is reportedly currently seeking candidates for the position of Staff Hero Designer, and one of the responsibilities is “design and execution for one or more playable characters.” The job description also mentions a third-person camera, mini-bosses, allies, and full-scale boss battles, and this appears to indicate the studio is beginning work on a large-scale X-Men crossover.

PlayStation's Insomniac is reportedly building its next game around multiple playable heroes, and it sounds a lot like X-Men

  • Report from Insider Gaming, based on new Insomniac job listings
  • Staff Hero Designer role covers "one or more playable characters"
  • Listings also mention allies, mini-bosses and large-scale boss fights
  • Third-person action, same as Spider-Man and Wolverine

We know that Jean Grey was originally a playable character in Marvel's Wolverine, but Insomniac decided to scrap that idea. Given how the game sets the stage for the future appearance of mutants— mentioning many well-known characters, including Cyclops, Beast, and Rogue—it’s quite possible that, besides Logan, players will be able to take control of other heroes as well. Let's not forget the 2023 leak, which mentioned that Insomniac was planning to make a crossover game based on the X-Men. It seems that Marvel's Wolverine was the first step in that direction.

Additionally, the studio is reportedly also working on Marvel's Venom and Marvel's Spider-Man 3, which may be released within the next couple of years. As for Marvel's Wolverine, despite mixed reviews from critics and players, a recent report confirmed very strong sales last month —although neither Sony nor Insomniac has shared any official information on the matter.
