Konami Teases “Second and Third Waves” of Silent Hill Games Are Coming
After a break of more than a decade, the Silent Hill games are back in the spotlight, and some of them have turned out to be outstanding horror titles. Since 2024, Konami has released three new games in the franchise, each different from the others, and the studio seems to be hinting that more are coming.
Konami producer Motoi Okamoto recently spoke to Famitsu about the future of Silent Hill game series. As reported by Game Observer, he claimed the studio is preparing second and third waves of games after the first one, which included the Silent Hill 2 Remake and the spin-offs Silent Hill f and Silent Hill: Townfall. You can check out his full comments below:
“All three titles we initially announced were able to be released successfully, so we’re relieved. They’ve also received high praise, and we are satisfied with it.
Successfully launching this 'first wave' comes with great relief, but we’re not stopping here; we must think of the second and third waves. We can’t share specific details, but we’re currently looking at a number of projects.”
It’s no surprise Konami is planning a bright future for Silent Hill. The remake of the second installment, released in 2024 and the start of the “first wave,” became one of the franchise’s highest-rated games (86 on Metacritic) and had sold 6 million copies as of May this year. Despite its change of setting, Silent Hill f found its audience, and its sales were also solid. Last month, Screen Burn released a new spin-off, Townfall. Sales figures aren’t available yet, but critics have been warm. You can also purchase Silent Hill: Townfall on Eneba at a 5% discount using the promo code EGW5.
As for future projects, Bloober Team is officially working on a remake of the original Silent Hill. Konami has also admitted they want to release new games every year and that several unannounced projects are in development. According to rumors, one of them could be Silent Hill 5, which has been canceled several times over the past 20 years and was originally meant to be the third entry.
There have also been reports of a Silent Hill movie reboot following the success of Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil. According to the available information, the new film is in early development and will take a fresh look at the series, with horror specialist Roy Lee as producer.
