Naruto Gets a New Manga From Masashi Kishimoto and an Anime Crossover With Ninku

Project Rasengan, a global initiative dedicated to a new era of the Naruto franchise, was unveiled at New York Comic Con 2026. It is planned as a three-year roadmap running from 2027 to 2029 and will cover manga, anime, games, and a trading card game. The biggest announcements were a new manga from original creator Masashi Kishimoto and an anime crossover between Naruto and the classic manga Ninku.

The new manga is titled Naruto: Shadow Rising, and Masashi Kishimoto himself will draw it. A teaser was released alongside the announcement, showing Hokage Rock with the faces of the six previous Hokage and a seventh still being carved, the original Team 7, and, at the end, a clash between Naruto and Sasuke. Story details and the serialization start date have not been revealed yet.

The second announcement was Naruto x Ninku, a crossover consisting of four episodes. Every episode will be supervised by Masashi Kishimoto and Ninku creator Koji Kiriyama. In the story, Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura receive a mission from Kakashi, with Naruto serving as the team’s interim leader. During the mission, the heroes enter another world and meet Fusuke, a boy with a frog-like face. Junko Takeuchi returns to voice Naruto, while Rika Matsumoto voices Fusuke. A release date for the crossover has not been announced yet.

Ninku is a ninja manga by Koji Kiriyama that ran in Weekly Shonen Jump in the 1990s. It had a strong influence on Kishimoto, who admitted that Naruto came about largely because of it:

I drew Naruto because I wanted to see what happened next in Ninku, and I was heavily influenced by it.

More details about the new manga, anime, and games will be revealed at the Naruto stage during Jump Festa ‘27, which will take place on December 19–20 at Makuhari Messe in Japan.
