Rockstar Teases Jason Might Have an Autism in GTA 6
Rockstar Games is famous for how deeply it develops the characters in its games, so players naturally have high expectations for Jason and Lucia, the leads of GTA 6. The studio hasn’t shown much about them yet, but a recent hint from the developers has fans guessing that Jason may be neurodivergent in the game.
Rupert Humphries, a Rockstar writer, may have hinted at this in a recent interview with Love Magazine. Talking about Jason and his path as a criminal, he stated Jason is “wired differently from other people.” Some fans took this as a sign he might be autistic. You can check out Humphries’ fuller comments below:
“We didn’t want to make any kind of statement with Jason’s backstory. It needs to be understood that he takes the measures he does—drug trafficking and becoming a bank robber, etc.—because of his material circumstances. But a lot of this is up to the player to decide whether he needs to do that, or if it’s a choice he makes because he’s wired differently from other people.”
IGN noted that some fans now see Jason’s behavior in a new light. In the gameplay presentation, for example, he shakes another character’s hand, holds it up for a moment, and lowers it when he sees the other person has stopped paying attention. Others point to his habit of copying people around him to fit in, avoiding eye contact with some people, and acting confident while holding a weapon.
Rockstar has confirmed that Jason is “wired differently from other people” in a new interview with Love Magazine.
Some GTA 6 fans already believe he’s a neurodivergent after multiple awkward moments of him were spotted in the Extended Look.
For now, these are only theories, and there have already been plenty about GTA 6. The same issue of Love Magazine shared several new details about the game, mostly about the relationship between Jason and Lucia, but also about the game’s development and the open world.
Another big GTA 6 story this week was the return of Cyberleek, the hacker behind the huge gameplay leak. He posted over 20 minutes of leaked gameplay and claimed that if his crypto wallet grows by $30 million, he would release a playable build of GTA 6 with the full story mode.
Grand Theft Auto VI will release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
